Unfortunately Christianne Stotijn had to cancel, due to illness. She regrets this very much, she had been looking forward to join the jury and listen to all the young lied duos with a passion for art song.
We are nevertheless extremely luck we found an excellent replacement in the Australian mezzo soprano and Professor at the UdK in Berlin, Caitlin Hulcup.
Australian mezzo-soprano Caitlin Hulcup began her musical career in violin and chamber music before going on to study voice in Melbourne. Winning an Opera Foundation Award, enabled her to attend the National Opera Studio in London, which would then lead to her European debut at the Vienna State Opera. Her repertoire includes signature roles by Strauss, Rossini, Mozart and Handel, which she has performed at leading opera houses worldwide.
Beyond opera, Hulcup enjoys a rich concert career, performing internationally at major venues, such as the Sydney Opera House, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and Wiener Konzerthaus. Her concert performances have recently featured major orchestral works by Mahler including, Das Lied von der Erde and Kindertotenlieder, while her recent Lieder and chamber appearances include Oxford International Song Festival, Melbourne Recital Center and LiedFest Berlin Oxford.
Caitlin holds a doctorate in voice from the University of Melbourne and regularly gives masterclasses internationally. She taught at the Royal Academy of Music in London before joining the Universität der Künste Berlin as a professor in 2021.
De winnaars van het Internationaal Studenten LiedDuo Concours (het enige ter wereld dat zich speciaal op studenten richt) zijn Michael Rakotoarivony (bariton, Madagascar) en Teodora Oprisor (piano, Roemenië). Zij worstelden zich door drie rondes heen, bij hoge uitzondering zonder de ondersteuning van publiek. De concertzaal van het Prins Claus Conservatorium was leeg ten gevolge van de maatregelen omtrent de Corona-crisis. Het duo viel bij de jury op vanwege hun doorleefde interpretatie, verzorgde tekstfrasering en door hun bijzondere samenspel als tweetal. Hans Eijsackers, de artistiek directeur van het Concours: “Het is geweldig om te zien dat jonge mensen die nog studeren al zo’n hoog niveau kunnen presenteren. Dit belooft veel voor de toekomst. Als jury zijn we dan ook apetrots!”
Voor deze muzikale krachtmeting moesten de 18 speciaal geselecteerde studentenduo’s ook een nieuwe compositie van Lucas Wiegerink instuderen, op een Latijnse tekst van Erasmus.
De winnaars van de tweede prijs zijn Vassia Alati en Yuto Kiguchi. De derde prijs ging naar Charlotte Watzlawik en Lisa Ochsendorf, zij wonnen ook de prijs voor de beste uitvoering van het stuk van Wiegerink.
